Best Meal Planning Apps to Make Life Easier

Our toddler will be 2.5 and it’s looking increasingly likely that my husband will be out of commission recovering from back surgery around the time of my due date. Toddler will continue at day care 5 days/week, full days if needed. I had a c section the first time around and while so far VBAC is still a strong possibility, it’s reasonable to expect that I may be recovering from surgery as well. My parents are in town but are CPAs and are totally off the grid in late March/early April due to tax time. ILs live out of town and can’t take the time off of work, and wouldn’t be helpful anyway. You have everything you need to cook the recipes using our mobile app.

Fabulous Meal Planner Apps for Families perfect for your Phone

Meal planning is important because it is a great way to save yourself some time, money, and stress surrounding cooking for your family each day. Finding a great app to help you with planning ahead for your family’s meals each day is a great way to help you stay organized as you plan. Plan to Eat is our pick for the best meal planning app with a grocery list. The grocery list and shopping aspects are the best part of the app. You can import recipes from any website or add your own and then place them on the calendar, then Plan to Eat builds a grocery shopping list for you.

  • If your confident with what you want to serve but need a reminder, or a way to relay that information to the rest of the family, then this app will be your best friend of all the meal planning apps.
  • I couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to one of my most-very-best friends.
  • Regardless of what diet option you choose though, you are always in control of the ingredients, which means you can customize for any food allergies and dietary restrictions you need.
  • “There are some slight issues though, especially when using the ‘shop’ feature,” Pete wrote.
  • Meal planning apps can make your life easier and help you achieve your health and weight goals while navigating dietary restrictions.
  • I use the search bar on the home screen to search for ingredients like broccoli, cilantro, or coconut milk (the most common things I have laying around), and pick a couple of recipes to utilize those.

The Keto Diet: What It Is, How It Works & How to Get Started

Each meal is balanced with vegetables, grains, and a protein. Over a month, I’d estimate that I love 25 percent of the recipes, like 65 percent, and dislike 10 percent. It’s a yearly subscription ($40 maybe?) You can easily import recipes from blogs/web pages using a bookmarklet (or enter them manually), then you drag the recipes onto a calendar to plan for the week. You can then flip back through your weekly calendars, which I do sometimes if I want to remember what I made when so-and-so last came over so I don’t repeat it. It even makes a grocery list based on what you have planned, although we use Our Groceries.

The recipes can be used to create a meal plan by adding the recipes to the app’s calendar. With the help of this simple meal planning app, Paprika, you can plan and organize your family’s meals all in one handy place. We also looked for apps with extensive recipe libraries already built into the app at the time of download, which helped to make meal planning and shopping much easier. Choosing the right meal planning app really depends on your personal needs. There’s no single “best” meal planning app,  just the best one for how you actually eat, shop, and cook.

You can also choose your general diet preferences such as low carb, keto, paleo, vegetarian, flexitarian (less meat), pescetarian (vegetarian that eats seafood), or vegan. You can also choose the classic diet option that means there are no general restrictions on carbs or meat. This is a meal plan for those who are looking to lose weight or control how many calories they intake every day. If your family wonders what is for dinner, they can check out the app instead of you being asked multiple times a day.

Ready to get your family organized?

Preheat the oven to 400ºF, cover a pan in tin foil, drop some veggies, and your dinners are one step closer to being ready. Cut up fresh vegetables over the weekend and put them in a container in the fridge. This way, they’ll be ready for snacking or salad-topping whenever your tummy rumbles. The layout is straightforward and lets you drag dishes to change the order around within each day.

Once you pick your recipes, you can use the app to create a shopping list of ingredients you need to make for the recipe and add extra ingredients you need to purchase for the week. In addition to creating recipe lists, Yummly allows you to create shopping lists based on the ingredients in the recipes you select. When you select a recipe, the ingredients will automatically be added to a shopping list so you’ll know exactly what you need to buy at the grocery store when you’re ready to go shopping. And there just plain isn’t enough time for everyone to try them all, so I have compiled a list (my personal opinions here) of the meal planning apps/sites that are worth mentioning.

Meal prep took me from feeling constantly stressed out about meals to cool, collected and in control. I want to share this amazing and transformational habit with you, so you can feel in control, too!

To make things easier at the grocery store, you can even sort the ingredients you need for your recipes by aisle before you go shopping. Or you could even make your own reusable menus to make meal planning for your family even easier from week to week. It’s best to look for features that meet your dietary needs, such as an app that filters is unimeal legit for allergens or special diets, or a goal of eating high protein foods or less calories. We strive to be the most flexible meal plan out there, which means you get to decide which meals you want to make for any given menu. When you become a member, you can start from any of the menus we’ve created since 2013 and swap in any of the meals from our very vast Recipe Archives.

Food is Love

But what I didn’t like about Once a Month Meals is that for many recipes, you have to cook the food, freeze it, then cook some more after you take it out of the freezer. With the New Leaf Wellness plans, you do ZERO cooking beforehand and then everything goes straight into the crockpot! The recipes are based on whole, real foods, and they come with printable labels and nutritional info for every meal. I now combine online shopping with Zaycon Fresh, which means that I’m spending even less time shopping and prepping.

Our Thoughts on Paprika

There is also a grocery list feature on this app, which will add all of the ingredients in the recipes you flag to a list. You can add all of the items that you have at home to your “Pantry” list so that the app won’t add them to your grocery list. Users also enjoy the “virtual pantry” feature that allows you to input and track ingredients you already have on hand so that you don’t buy duplicate items from your app-generated grocery list.

Pitch in to a shared fund

Weeknight dinners consisted of tacos, spaghetti, german pancakes, and occasionally I’d make something like soup or salad or some chicken recipe… if I was planning ahead. We had Little Caesars Pizza 1-2 times per week, and there were always weekly “fend for yourselves” nights (kids ate cereal or oatmeal). Most days, 5pm would hit and I’d have no dinner plan in place. One of the best parts of meal planning and prepping is that I don’t have a lot of waste at the end of each week. I really hope to start each week with a full fridge but end it with one that’s very empty. 6) I shop AT the grocery store; I am not THE grocery store.

I always thought that meal planning was going to require a ton of time and energy to get into. But the truth is, all it takes is a small commitment of 15 minutes or less once a week. You can use old fashioned pen and paper, or a personal organizer. I’ve tried a lot of different meal planning methods in the past, and although some have sort of worked, nothing has ever really stuck. Coming up with dinner ideas week after week is a constant struggle for me!
